Vedic astrology – Historical Perspective & Uses – Lesson 1
An introduction
Vedic Astrology, the science of time, the Eye of Wisdom and first among the branches of knowledge has come down to us from 18 seers. While Varaha Mihira is hailed as the father of Indian Astrology, Parashara is hailed as the father of India predictive astrology. IndianAstro-Physics is divided into 3 main parts – Siddhanta (Astronomy), Samhita (Astro-Philosophy) and Hora (Astrology).
The English word "time" is derived from the Sanskrit word Time.
The Precession of the Equinoxes
While the Western astronomers compute everything from 0 degrees of Aries which is the beginning of the zodiac tropical Indian astronomers to calculate from 0 degrees Aswathi (Beta Arietis), which is the beginning of the sidereal zodiac. Sidereal derives from the Latin word "Sidereus" which means the constellation of fixed stars. The vernal equinoctial point was found to precede one degree in 72 years and therefore 360 * 72 = 25,920 years is set as the precession of the equinoxes or the cycle of precession.

Flamsteed Long before the beginning of the Zodiac fixed at 0 degrees of Aries, the Indian astronomer Brahmagupta is set at 0 degrees Aswini (Beta Arietis). Another great astronomer and mathematician Aryabhata wrote treatises on Spherical Astronomy & Trignometry spherical Aryabhateeyam his magnum opus. It is said that the Arabs acquired knowledge of mathematics and astronomy only after Brahmagupta Brahmasphutasiddhanta was translated into Arabic (in Sind rear)! "The difference between the tropical (Western) and Sidereal (India) Zodiacs is about 23 degrees this year. Sidereal Astrology is based on the properties of the Sidereal Zodiac Zodiac – Western Astrology is based on tropical and the tropical zodiac, which is mobile.
The philosophical side
As the destructive power is embedded in the atom, so are the acts of preservation, creation and destruction spent time within the Almighty. Eternal Time is the only Creator, Preserver and Destroyer. Past, Present and future are incorporated within eternity and a connoisseur of time can get an idea of past, present and future. This is a product of the past. Future is contained in the present to the extent determined by the present. The Lord identifies with the cosmic phenomenon time. "I am the eternal time," he says in the Gita (the Kalosmi "). Oppenheimer, the Father of the Atomic Bomb quoted this verse from the Gita, when saw the first atomic explosion. For him, the destructive power of the atom was a mere manifestation of the destructive power of Eternal Time!

The practical aspect
The great French mathematician Laplace Probability advocated as a weapon to deal with reality. Astrology is the application of the law of probability in its entirety, based on astronomical facts. Our life is hampered by many obstacles and we are busy fighting barriers to success. These barriers are always there, some known, some unknown. But through the Wisdom of the Heavens (Astrology) these barriers can be known, why is there and what are the causes that led to heaven. Everything happens for a reason. Classical Philosophy postulates that the causes natural causes have corresponding celestial and this is known as the Law of Correspondence. This message is contained in the aphorism "As above, so below." Once the causes are known to us of an astrologer in good faith, overcoming barriers becomes easy.
The scientist manipulates the effect: diviner or the poet manipulates the Cause. Astrology and Yoga are the sciences that deal with the cause. Divine is the transcendent without Cause Cause.Astrology has been described as a lamp in the dark. Without it, life becomes a nightmare with no light and wander blindly in the dark. "Forewarned is" prepared. It is of the negative aspects of planets that create all the obstacles in our lives. Once they are known, through the Great Art we can transcend its negativity. Life becomes more smooth sailing and successful becomes ours.
The New Age Movement
New Era – A paradigm shift to Divine Consciousness & a Universal Philosophy
The New Age Movement (NAM) is a spiritual rebirth and divine values and can be called as a Divine Regeneration Movement. New Age Philosophy has conquered the West intellectually and Western culture is experiencing a phenomenal shift – sociological, spiritual and ideological. It is a secular, multicultural, multi-religious synthesis of philosophies Eastern mystical, mainly Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, and Western Occultism, with emphasis on holism, the doctrine that reality is organically One (now taught in American universities after the Theory of Relativity Einstein).
Behind the evolution of the species, there an evolution of Consciousness. The goal of human life is the Auto-Update, to evolve the level of Unity Consciousness, defined as the 7th state of Consciousness in transcendental philosophy.
The social disruption caused by the Vietnam War, the threat posed by AIDS, the disillusionment with materialistic ideas and erosion of faith in morality and ethics brought a sense of futility and meaninglessness in the Western psyche.The limitations of the Western system of chemotherapy and side effects side antibiotics, sedatives and certain other drugs and the disillusionment with the promises of science and technology made millions turn to Oriental philosophies, occult practices and treatment systems. (The interest in alternative medicine developed to such an extent that there are now over 180 systems of alternative medicine.
Exponents of New Age Philosophy in Europe and America are Transcendentalists like Thoreau, Emerson and Walt Whitman, Wordsworth, Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772), and introduced Theosophy of Madame Helena Blavatsky (1831 – 1891) and Col Olcott and the philosopher, Annie Besant. As the world witnessed a revolution of consciousness, meditation transcendental yoga, Zen, Carlos Castano, the Beatles, Holistic Medicine (Western and Ayurveda), Tantra, Astrology (both Western and Vedic) all became popular.
There are 6 million new Age sites on the Web and the NAM consists of a massive and well organized network consisting of thousands of groups, consortia, foundations, clubs, lodges and spiritual groups whose goal and purpose is to prepare the world to enter the coming Aquarian Age. (The Age of Aquarius). In the symbolism astrology, Aquarius represents Spirituality and Pisces Rationality. The Piscean Age, the era of Informatics and Cybernetics revolution, will be followed by an era Awareness of the revolution or a spiritual revolution, the Age of Aquarius.
Some organizations of the New Age are: California Caucus of the New Age Partnership New World, World Goodwill, The Church Universal and Triumphant, The Theosophical Society, Amnesty International, zero population growth, the Forum, the Initiative Planetary for the world we want, Science Club of Rome, the Church Universal and Triumphant, Christian, and the Unity School of Christianity.
New Age believes in the essential the goodness of man and the divine spark in man and the New Age movement is not a unified cult system of beliefs and practices, though its roots derive from the philosophy Vedic. There is no central authority, no official leader, no headquarters, nor membership list, but a network of groups working toward World Peace and Love Universal. There are millions of fans around the world some of the new age practices and the world is moving from Chaos (Disorder) to Cosmos (Order)! This is a transition phase of entropy (disorder) to Order!
Significant influence has been gained by NAM affecting almost every area of Western culture, sociology, Psychology, Medicine, Government, Ecology, Science, Arts, Education, Community Business, media, entertainment, sports, and even the Church. Organised spiritual forms such as Christian Science, Unity and even forms of Witchcraft (from the German 'Wicca' is, the Wise; Witchcraft: Art of the Wise) are all expressions. Various Human Potential Seminars, Transcendental Meditation, Zen Meditation and some practices holistic alternative medicine are also its manifold manifestations.
Some popular New Age publications and journals New Age Journal, the Z Files, Clarity, Mind Body Spirit Yoga Journal, Gnosis, East West, Noetic Sciences, the Millennium Being and Omega. The new trend of people now is to see everything from a New Age
The main objective of the New Age Movement is to prepare the man to enter into the Aquarian Age and bring world peace in a world already beaten. "Everything is wrong in the world" Shaw said some of the other objectives of the NAM are to establish an entirely New World Order in the fields of Economics and Government. The idea of a World Government was proposed by Bernard Shaw earlier and was implemented by Mahesh Yogi and occurs in the writings of the foundational apostle of the New Age Movement, Alice Bailey.
Initiation The word "" is derived from the Latin "In ire of" to go within and Initiates were called by the Grand Master as the salt of the earth. The Mystic Reality Ward defined as "Within and within and within and between." Another mystic described it as "It is hidden, is hidden and concealed." The New Age Movement is secular and universally distributed over the surface of the earth and its basic underlying philosophy emphasizes gnosticism and occultism. (Gnosticism is an ancient philosophy stating that Divine essence is the supreme reality, and that the Self of man is actually this Essence. Behind the phenomenal world is the transcendent reality that Intuition alone can see.) It is worth a striking resemblance to the Universal Religion that HG Wells predicted that some day conquer the world.
The six main characteristics of New Age thinking are: (1) All is Unity, (2) All is Divine (3) Humanity is divine (4) a change in consciousness, (5) All religions are one, and (6) cosmic evolutionary optimism.
Basically dialectical Integralism, New Age Philosophy unites both Matter and Spirit.

The 13 fundamental principles of New Age Philosophy are:
(1) One World Order – One World Governement, a coin, universal.
(2) Universal Energy, Universal Matter, Universal Life, Universal Soul As God

(4) Divine practices (Astrology Yoga and other esoteric arts)
(5) Syncretism (Unity of all religions).
(6) The need for meditation (For generate altered states of consciousness);
(7) Life is cyclical "Everything is cyclical, subject to weather cyclical disorders.
(8) Holistic Medicine and Vegetarianism (The patient is more important than the doctor and alkaline diet)
(9) Pacifism (anti-war activities);
(10) Reincarnation (The Law of Conservation of Soul)
(11) Developments in the divinity of man, (The latent Life Force in natural evolution to the Divine)
(12) The union of man with the divine; (concentrations of man at infinity)
(13) illusion of matter; – Esse est percipii – Perception is Essence; The mind is the substance.
The practices of the New Age are psychic practices like: Astrology, Reiki, Bioenergy, Chi energy, Chakras, Nirvana, Christ Consciousness, Spiritualism, Native American Spirituality, Prajna, Out-of-body/near- death experiences, reincarnation, yoga, meditation and the occult disciplines, as well as psychotherapeutic techniques and scientific applications of the healing powers of crystals and pyramids.
Some commonly used New Age terms are: Quantum Healing, Transmutation, Transfiguration, Guided Imagery, Reincarnation; Thought positive human potential, holistic, holographic, synergistic Unit, Unity, Transformation, waking; network; One-world/globalism/new world to share communally; order (ie, one language, one government, one currency, one religion) Cosmic Consciousness, Zodiac, etc.
Some practices of the New Era are: Transcendental Meditation, Parapsychology, inner healing, biofeedback, yoga, I Ching, Reflexology, Therapeutic Touch, Transpersonal Psychology; witchcraft, magic, Tai Chi, Shamanism, Hypnotherapy, Acupuncture / acupressure, martial arts, Zen and Relaxation; Silva Method (formerly Silva Mind Control), visualization, etc.
Some prominent New Age are: Jeremy Rifkin, Norman Cousins, Elizabeth Clare Prophet, John Denver, George Lucas, Norman Lear, Alice Bailey, Alvin Toffler, Dr. Barbara Ray, Benjamin Creme, Levi Dowling, George Trevelyan, Fritjof Capra, Abraham Maslow, Barbara Marx Hubbard, Ruth Montgomery, Shirley MacLaine, JZ Knight, Marilyn Ferguson and David Spangler.
Soothing audio environments created by the musicians of New Age and rightly believe that music has properties psycho-therapeutic. (This concept is derived from the Vedic philosophy that all music is Samaveda, 4 Veda of the Indians). Born of an interest in spirituality and healing in the 1970s, is often used as an aid in meditation.
Essentially meditative, New Age Music is soothing the soul. Isn't Music defined as food for the soul? Harmonic consonance, uplifting themes, melodies and contemplative nonlinear song forms are the characteristics of music New Age. Even natural sounds or sounds of nature and traditional electronic instruments are used by musicians from New Era. With roots in classical music or oriental music, New Age music is often meditative. Featured musicians include vocalist Liz New Age Story, harpist Andreas Vollenweider, electric violinist Jean-Luc Ponty, electronic music pioneer Brian Eno, multi-instrumentalist and Kitaro solo-piano artist George Winston.
New Age practices have almost conquered world. Athletes are using guided imagery. business schools are invoking TM, Yoga, and Tarot cards in teaching courses on creativity in the company (eg, Stanford Graduate School of Business). On the basis of astrology, the science of time, the employment exchange gurus Fibonacci numbers and "theory wave "in their forecasts.
We can summarize that the term New Age is an innovative term derived from the mother of all sciences, Astrology, what indicating that this earth is undergoing a transitional evolutionary phase of the Age of Pisces the scientism of the Aquarian Age of the Divine Wisdom, Cosmic Consciousness, Knowledge and Love
Since the New Age is a conglomeration of spiritual practices, let us analyze the basic principles of NAM
1. The Divine Source authority. New Agers do not claim any authoritative source for only the inspiration of the Divine. By the Divine we mean a principle within, the Divine Spark or the Self and many are there who receive the revealations of self within or insights of the Self.
2. The Lord. – Since matter and energy is neither created nor destroyed and the sum total energy in the universe is an absolute constant Be (Universal), The Lord created the world, became the world. Monism "(" All is Unity ") averrs there is only one essence in the universe, everyone and everything that is part of that essence. Being is an absolute Being and all these are your becomings. New Age view of God as a force impersonal life, consciousness or energy (for example, the "Star Wars Force") mainly but they also believe in personal appearance, like the ocean (Which is immaterial) can take the form of an iceberg! They averred that every human being has a divine spark within him because all created beings are reflections of the Divine Idea. The eternal state is called by various terms among different New Age groups, ie God-consciousness, Universal Love, Self-Realization, the I AM, Superior I, Brahman, Nirvana, etc.
2. The Redeemer, Jesus Christ. Christ Consciousness or the Divine Consciousness is what the New Age advocates mean by Christ. . Gnosis means experiential knowledge and salvation in the New Age is for man to become enlightened through this Divine Gnosis. New Age groups offer various spiritual techniques for individuals, and ultimately the world to evolve in this unitive consciousness. These techniques may include psychotechnologies to reach altered states of consciousness – Meditation Transcendental Yoga, Zen, Attunement, Channeling (spiritual guides), psychics, acupuncture, etc.
4. Ethical Opposites, Good Evil – Believing in the Oriental philosophies, New Agers make the distinction between good and evil. All wickedness is weakness and Evil is imperfection. By trial and error, come to know what is good and what is bad for the world and we must transcend the dualities.
5. Reincarnation. New Agers believe in the ancient Vedic philosophic concept of reincarnation, that through a long process of rebirths, man can eventually reach the divine perfection. They also teach the Universal Law Karma – ((The Law of Cause and Effect (Every effect has a cause), The Law of Action and Reaction, the Law of Compensation)) What one person sows, to be harvested. This is also the doctrine of non-responsibility of God, that Being is not responsible and is the Ego which experiences bitter experience mental and sweet due to their own karma.
6.Salvation is the Auto-Update and sin is ignorance – SSome theoreticians taught the concept of original sin of man. New exponents Age teaching the concept of the essential goodness of man. Instead of systems that emphasized the negative human aspect and sin, New Age highlights that every man is essentially divine, and is a sin to call a sinner! However, New Agers speak of troublesome desires which are natural impulses which retard human evolution and make Ego ego away. Sin is merely ignorance of man's essential divinity. The atrophied spiritual consciousness of the normal man who lives in ignorance of the Divine Being is sin. As the Energy Conservation Law, which states that energy can not be created or destroyed, the Law of Conservation of Soul states that the soul can not be created nor destroyed. Matter exists in 3 states, liquid, gaseous and solid matter is neither created nor destroyed. Nothing is becoming. In the same way of life at birth nonphysical begin to be. Simply enter physical conditions and assumes physical appearance. Simply undergoes a parallel transformation in the conditions pre-existed in other conditions. The soul is reincarnated in different bodies in a continuous succession of lives. The good or bad Karma earned in the present life determines a later incarnation. Achieving of higher states of consciousness must be our aim.There many different paths to the goal of divine perfection, and we must be tolerant of other paths.
The divine Aurobindo predicted that spiritual influences from India will trigger off a global spiritual incarnations movement.There is Mass (many people divinely inspired) who will work for World Peace and Universal Love!

The four systems of Philosophy which triggered the NAM are Hinduism, a product of 5,000 years of development, Buddhism, about 560 a. C., Taoism, circa 500 BC C. and Druidism, around 300 BC, the religion of the Celts, which lasted until the Middle Ages.
